Launch of Arabic Version of the Thematic Study “The Cultural Heritage of Water in the Middle-East and Maghreb”

In conjunction with the 43rd session of World Heritage Committee, taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 30 June to 10 July 2019, the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH) and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) organized a side-event to launch the Arabic version of the thematic study, “The Cultural Heritage of Water in the Middle-East and Maghreb” on 7 July 2019.

The first edition of this study was prepared by ICOMOS in 2015 with the support of ARC-WH, and aimed at proposing a typological inventory to be regarded as a methodological reference, both in view of achieving recognition and preservation of such heritage sites on a national level, and in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention in the region.

By translating the thematic study into Arabic, ARC-WH hopes to disseminate this knowledge by making it more accessible for the Arabic speaking populace, as well as promote Arabic as one of UNESCO’s official working languages, and as the languages used by a number of site managers and heritage professionals working in the Arab States region.

The online version of the translation is now available for download on ARC-WH’s website (please go to our Resources section). The printed version can be obtained directly from ARC-WH’s headquarters in Manama, Bahrain.
