Rashad Faraj appointed as Director of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage

The Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Rashad Faraj as its new Director.

Mr. Faraj brings a wealth of experience from various sectors, including global Finance and Investment firms, Governmental and Cultural Institutions, and entrepreneurial SMEs across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. His roles have been diverse, ranging from principal roles in building businesses from inception, financial investments across different sectors, to advising and representing Governments in local, regional, and international forums.

From 2011 to 2015, Mr. Faraj served as a consultant and Acting Director of Museums at the Ministry of Culture, Kingdom of Bahrain. During this tenure, he provided invaluable insights into the financial structuring of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage, a Category II Centre established under the auspices of UNESCO. Additionally, he offered strategic advice on Tourism Strategy and represented the Kingdom of Bahrain at UNESCO. As Director of Museums, he demonstrated exemplary oversight and management of the National Museum, site museums, and over 40 heritage sites across the country. Furthermore, Mr. Faraj represented the Kingdom of Bahrain at UNESCO, including General Assemblies, Committee Meetings, and Working Groups, along with engagements with cultural institutions such as ICCROM, ICOMOS, and the IUCN.

Since June 2019, Mr. Faraj has served as an Advisor to the Chief Executive’s Office of the Bahrain Economic Development Board, where he has been instrumental in activities such as restructuring Bahrain’s Fintech Bay, leading the Gateway Gulf project, overseeing the Economic Development Board’s annual participation in the Spring of Culture.

Mr. Faraj holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree with a Double Major in Economics and International Relations from Tufts University (1990-1993), Massachusetts, United States of America. He furthered his academic pursuits with a Masters in Business Administration degree from the prestigious London Business School, located in London, United Kingdom.
