The Supreme Council for Environment and the Arab Regional Center for World Heritage organize the third workshop for preparing the Red List for Biodiversity

The Supreme Council  the Environment (SCE) and the Arab Regional Center for World Heritage (ARC-WH) organized the third national workshop for preparing the second national Red List for a variety of species in the Kingdom of Bahrain, from 28 to 29 February 2024 at the premises of ARC-WH.

 

The Supreme Council for Environment praised the efforts made by ARC-WH in hosting and supporting programmess interested in protecting natural life in the Kingdom of Bahrain, commending the important role undertaken by the participating experts in the third national workshop through their expertise and experiences in various biodiversity fields.

 

The Supreme Council for the Environment explained that this workshop comes in parallel with the recommendations of the first workshop in 2015, aiming to assess the conservation status of more than 44 species of living organisms in the Kingdom of Bahrain at the regional level by a team of national and regional experts. Additionally, it aligns with the recommendations of the second workshop held in 2020, where additional species were evaluated and the current status of previously evaluated species was reviewed.

 

The Supreme Council for the Environment noted that the aim of the third national workshop is to implement and complete the recommendations of previous workshops, which emphasized the importance of adopting a continuous national programme to assess the status of species in the Kingdom, in order to preserve Bahrain’s natural heritage and environment, enhance the participants’ capacity to sustainably assess Red List criteria, and to issue the second assessment of the national Red List for the Kingdom of Bahrain.
