Third Cycle of the Periodic Reporting Exercise: World Heritage Site Managers Meeting

The Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), the World Heritage Centre (WHC) and the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab States located in Cairo, organised a regional meeting for World Heritage Site Managers on the implementation of the Third Cycle of the Periodic Reporting Exercise in Cairo, Egypt from 26-27 March 2019. The meeting was attended by World Heritage Site Managers from the following State Parties: Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain as well as Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan and Sudan.

Participants were familiarized with the Periodic Reporting Exercise in its Third Cycle and were assisted in filling in the questionnaire’s Section II, which is dedicated to collecting information about World Heritage properties.

Site managers were given the opportunity to share their experiences and preferred methods and practices in the field of World Heritage site conservation and interacted with ARC-WH and UNESCO staff on relevant topics with respect to the monitoring and reporting of State of Conservation of World Heritage sites.

Participants also received practical information that related to the relevance and use of information gathered during the Periodic Reporting Cycle exercise that is used in planning coordinated regional actions to enhance the effective implementation of the World Heritage Convention, as well as the protection and conservation of World Heritage sites.
