World Heritage Volunteers visit ARC-WH

Since 2017, the World Heritage Volunteers have visited ARC-WH to expand their knowledge on World Heritage, the World Heritage Convention, heritage in the Arab region and the role played by ARC-WH in the safeguarding of World Heritage sites. On 24 November 2019, ARC-WH welcomed the volunteers participating in the programme and shared the latest activities being undertaken by the Centre.

The World Heritage Volunteers also visited Bahrain’s World Heritage sites, surveyed and completed practical knowledge skills in the field. The activities provided the volunteers with the opportunity to acquire basic skills in heritage conservation techniques.

The theme for 2019 of the World Heritage Volunteers campaign was “Empowering Commitment to World Heritage”. Volunteers from all over the world were invited to participate and visit various World Heritage properties and sites inscribed on the Tentative Lists in 36 countries to learn about the safeguarding and preservation of cultural, natural and mixed sites. This initiative aims at raising awareness amongst the youth, local communities and volunteers towards the protection and promotion of World Heritage.
