Launch of the book ‘World Heritage Sites in the Arab Countries’

The Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage launched the second edition of “World Heritage Sites in the Arab Countries” at its premises in Manama, Bahrain on 16 March 2022. Her Excellency Sheikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chairperson of the Governing Board of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage inaugurated the second edition of the book in the presence of a number of Arab ambassadors and the Heritage Commission under the Ministry of Culture of Saudi Arabia. The noted photographer, Jean-Jacques Gelbart also attended the ceremony, which concluded with a short film that showcased all of the sites captured by Gelbart.

The Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage, through its cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), published the second edition of the book, which includes 20 additional sites that were included on the List of World Heritage in the Arab region between 2011 and 2019.

The first edition of the book, which was launched in 2012 in partnership with the Ministry of Culture in the Kingdom of Bahrain, UNESCO and ALECSO, and with the funding of Bahrain Bay Development, played a key role in strengthening the status of World Heritage in the region and highlighting its importance. The book also highlights the richness and beauty of the region’s heritage and helps to promote the Centre’s efforts in protecting it for current and future generations.
