Experts Mission to the Site of Manama

The Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), in collaboration with Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), conducted a field study of Manama, the capital of Bahrain, with the objective of evaluating the historic area, and to provide initial insight and recommendations towards the strengthening, protection and management of the multicultural city.

A World Heritage expert was invited by ARC-WH to assess the urban development of Manama over a course of four days.  The mission included multiple site visits to the area to examine the overall state of conservation, and to help to identify threats that needed to be addressed.

Additionally, meetings were held with various stakeholders, including representatives from the civil society and local authorities, to discuss recent protection and conservation efforts of Manama, and to determine technical and legislative challenges facing the city, to effectively preserve and enhance its cultural heritage.

Field visits to the Pearling Path in Muharraq, and Qalat Al-Bahrain were also carried out to inspect the current state conservation of the both World Heritage sites.
