The exhibition was created in cooperation with UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the National Council for Cultures, Arts and Letters in Kuwait, and the Arab Centre for Architecture in Lebanon, with the aim of raising awareness on the importance of modern heritage as a testament to the evolution of human thought as reflected in modern architecture.

The opening of the exhibition will be followed by a lecture entitled “Damascus Urbanization: Westernization, Authenticity and Modernity” by Dr. Anas Soufan, an architect and world heritage expert who will discuss the state of urban changes and history of Damascus, as well as the monitoring and transformations of the historic city’s society and urbanization.  He will discuss the transformations that have taken place on a local, regional and international level and how they have shaped the modern architectural fabric and urbanism similar in origin to other Arab cities.

Dr. Anas Soufan will also identify the heritage of modernity in Arab cities and how to understand, develop and maintain it in line with the major challenges these cities face, as well as their future visions.
