Second Sub-regional Workshop for Site Managers in the Arab States of the Third Cycle of the Periodic Reporting
From 29-30 April, ARC-WH, in collaboration with the World Heritage Centre (WH), held the Second Sub-regional Workshop for Site Managers in the Arab States of the Third Cycle of the Periodic Reporting at ARC-WH premises in Manama, Bahrain.
Both institutions shared their conservation actions and activities undertaken. The World Heritage Convention was also introduced, along with its background and mechanisms used for the conservation of World Heritage sites. Moreover, the participants benefitted from training exercises of the main concepts of World Heritage inherent to the successful completion of Section II of the Periodic Reporting Questionnaire.
During the workshop, ARC-WH and WHC accompanied the site managers in filling out Section II of the Questionnaire to assist and answer the site managers’ queries, thereby ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the information asked in the Questionnaire. The second sub-regional workshop was dedicated to francophone speaking countries from the Maghreb region, in addition to Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq. It was simultaneously interpreted into Arabic and was also used as a platform for bilateral meetings between ARC-WH and WHC to discuss future collaboration and the state of conservation of sites with the participants.
The idea was to take advantage of the presence of the sites managers and country representatives to monitor the status of some sites and exchange information with Arab States Parties. The workshop also helped address technical issues related to the Questionnaire.
