Training Workshop on the Mechanisms and Concepts of the World Heritage Convention
From 27 to 30 March 2022, the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), in collaboration with the Heritage Commission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, organised a ‘Training Workshop on the Mechanisms and Concepts of the World Heritage Convention’, at ARC-WH's premises in Manama, Bahrain. The capacity-building workshop was attended by a number of heritage professionals from Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and equipped them with a knowledge basis of the implementation and related processes of the 1972 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
The training also aimed to strengthen the capacities of heritage professionals from Saudi Arabia to ensure the protection and conservation of World Heritage sites located in the Kingdom. In addition to enhancing the understanding of management planning requirements and implementation on World Heritage sites, workshop participants were invited to share their experiences concerning the management and protection of World Heritage sites through exercises and stimulating discussions. The training also highlighted the importance of closer coordination between heritage stakeholders in Saudi Arabia. Various modules covered topics such as the Outstanding Universal Value, concepts of Authenticity and Integrity, World Heritage procedures, the Nomination Process and Periodic Reporting.
