The Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage Conducts Mission to two World Heritage Sites in Jordan

The Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH) was recently in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan after receiving an official request from the Baptism Site Commission (BSC). ARC-WH, with the assistance of an external expert, visited the World Heritage site, Baptism Site “Bethany Beyond the Jordan” (Al-Maghtas), to provide technical advice on the process of revising the HIA for completed and new churches in the buffer zone as requested by the World Heritage Committee.

During the visit to Jordan, ARC-WH also had the opportunity to visit the iconic World Heritage site, Petra, and attended two meetings with the Petra National Trust (PNT) and the Petra Archaeological Park to discuss potential areas of collaboration with ARC-WH including sustainable tourism within the framework of ARC-WH Rihla initiative.
