Organisation of the International Conference on World Heritage Sites and Museums
ARC-WH and UNESCO jointly organised an ‘International Conference on World Heritage Sites and Museums’ held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, from 2 to 3 November 2016, in cooperation with ALECSO, ICOM, ICOMOS, IUCN and ICCROM. The conference highlighted the crucial mediating role played by museums and how they are responsible for conveying the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) of sites, as well as their shared history, common duties towards the promotion of World Heritage and the integrity of sites. In the face of ongoing threats towards World Heritage sites and their OUV, museums can be used as a means of propagating education, awareness and community participation.
