Contribution to MSc Programme in Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage

On 19 February 2020 ARC-WH was invited by ICCROM-ATHAR to teach 18 graduate students about the World Heritage Convention mechanisms and processes at the University of Sharjah in the UAE.
ICCROM-ATHAR in collaboration with the University of Sharjah launched an interdisciplinary Master of Science (MSc) programme in ‘Conservation Management of Cultural Heritage’ (2019-2020), which is formulated for students from Arab countries with different backgrounds in archaeology, architecture, urban planning and other relevant disciplines.
ARC-WH contributed to this programme by giving a general introduction and overview of World Heritage and expanded upon the main concepts and mechanisms of the 1972 World Heritage Convention, and its criteria. ARC-WH also discussed Reactive Monitoring and States of Conservation (SoC), followed by an explanation of the World Heritage List in Danger, including its purposes and importance. These topics were enriched by debate and discussion sessions due to the quality of the students’ profiles and interest in World Heritage.
