ARC-WH Launches Expert Meeting Report on Modern Heritage in the Arab Region
The Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), has officially released the Report of the Expert Meeting on Modern Heritage in the Arab Region, a landmark publication documenting a pivotal expert gathering held in Manama from 4–6 March 2024.
The report captures the dynamic discussions and collaborative spirit of the expert meeting, which convened regional and international architects, researchers, and heritage professionals. Together, they assessed the current state of modern heritage in the Arab region, identified pressing challenges, and proposed innovative frameworks for its documentation and preservation.
Rooted in both local and global architectural legacies, modern heritage in the Arab region reflects a rich fusion of identity, tradition, and modern design principles. The report highlights key contributions from iconic figures in the region, while also addressing the threats faced by 19th and 20th-century architectural sites—many of which remain undocumented or are under threat.
The publication, prepared by Aziza Chaouni with contributions from a team of experts and edited by ARC-WH, offers a comprehensive overview of best practices, case studies, and collaborative strategies aimed at strengthening modern heritage preservation through joint regional efforts.
The release of this report underscores ARC-WH’s commitment to bridging knowledge gaps and fostering transdisciplinary collaboration across nations, institutions, and generations in the Arab Region.
