Organisation of the international expert meeting on underwater cultural heritage and World Heritage sites
The hybrid format meeting was attended by 28 Arab and international experts specialised in Underwater Cultural Heritage (UK, Egypt, Morocco, France, Lebanon, Algeria, Canada, Tunisia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Italy, Bahrain).
They discussed the importance of marine and underwater archaeological sites, their relationship to World Heritage sites, and their connection to the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV).
The experts highlighted the role of UCH as an integral part of many World Heritage sites, and this needs to be reflected in their management plans and the State of Conservation reports.
Among the recommendations of the meeting, the need for a Training manual in Arabic and training of Arab Experts in UCH was highlighted.
