Launch of the Second Edition of the book World Heritage of Arab Countries

The Arab Regional Center for World Heritage (ARC-WH) launched the second edition of the book “World Heritage Sites in the Arab Countries” on Friday, 19 November 2021, at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris, France. Her Excellency Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chairperson of the governing board of the Arab Regional Center for World Heritage inaugurated the second edition of the book in the presence of Her Excellency Mrs. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and Mr Ernesto Ottone Ramirez, the Assistant Director-General for Culture.

 

ARC-WH, through its cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), published the second edition of the book, which included 20 additional sites that were included on the list of World Heritage in the Arab region between 2011 and 2019, including a total of 86 cultural and natural World Heritage Sites in the second edition.

 

The book “World Heritage Sites in the Arab Countries”, which is presented in three languages (Arabic, English and French), aims to promote the World Heritage sites in the Arab region, and reflect the richness and beauty of this heritage, in order to consolidate efforts in protecting it for current and future generations and invest in its inscription on the list as a base for sustainable development.

The first edition of the book, which was launched in 2012 in partnership with the Ministry of Culture in the Kingdom of Bahrain, UNESCO and ALECSO, and with the funding of Bahrain Bay Development, played a key role in strengthening the status of World Heritage in the region and highlighting its importance.

 

The inauguration ceremony of the book was attended by their Excellencies the Permanent Representatives to UNESCO, diplomatic figures and representatives of international and regional institutions as well as organizations involved with heritage in the Arab region.

The second edition of the publication can be viewed by visiting ARC-WH in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain.
